NEW YORK, N.Y. – Working in Support of Education (w!se) is excited to announce that The Allstate Foundation has awarded a generous grant to support w!se’s MoneyW!SE Program for Survivors of Domestic Violence. Funding will support the program in San Diego for the 2017-18 year.

Through this groundbreaking program, w!se offers a 12-week course on personal finance to domestic violence survivors and, at the end of each course, administers w!se’s Financial Literacy Certification Test. Clients who pass the test become Certified Financially Literate and earn w!se’s CFL™. Classes meet once a week in the evening for two hours. Food and childcare are provided.

Clair, a MoneyW!SE client, recently noted: “It was a great class! I learned a lot! I will be budgeting better and sticking to it, saving and starting to invest, opening a CD, and using my tax return to start a rainy day emergency fund. I will also pass on these lessons to my kids so they will be knowledgeable about their finances.”

“We are deeply grateful to our cherished sponsor, The Allstate Foundation, for their generous grant,” said Phyllis Frankfort Perillo, w!se President and CEO. “The grant will help us transform the lives of survivors of domestic violence, with a pathway to financial independence,” she added.

MoneyW!SE was first launched in 2009. More than 100 domestic violence survivors have become Certified Financially Literate™.
